In 1939, parishioner William Verdonk was diagnosed with cancer, and after surgery was told he had six months to live. William prayed to Our Lady of Lourdes to intercede on his behalf for restoration of his health, and his prayers were answered.

In 1943, as an act of faith and thanksgiving, William built the grottos, modeling it after the grotto at the University of Notre Dame.

The grotto is enhanced in front by paver bricks engraved with personal intentions to honor or commemorate family members. You may participate in the Grotto Paver Project with a contribution of $100. Click here to download the form, and send it/bring it to the parish office with your check. Bricks are installed in the spring and in the fall.

Our Collaborative

In our collaborative, Fr. Jim Morris, Fr. Fabio Garzon, and Fr. Daniel Rodriguez serve St. Basil Church in South Haven, St. Peter Church in Douglas, and San Felipe de Jesus in Fennville.

The Collaborative Plan was developed by the Diocese of Kalamazoo to better distribute available priests to ensure that all parishes receive necessary pastoral and sacramental care.
